Ah, so you’re interested in my participating with you in a book-signing event. Wonderful!!!

- Your name and contact information, of course. Please include a phone number where you can be reached during the day and, if you don’t mind my calling you in the evening, a number for after work-hours as well.
- The projected date and times of your event. Best if you can give me more than one possible date in case I have a time conflict with your first choice.
- Location. Obviously, if it’s some distance from my home in Orem, Utah, travel expenses will need to be provided but we can work out the details about that. My goal is to insure that I provide you with complete satisfaction so you’ll want to invite me back again.
- I appreciate having the chance to work with your CMM or AMM in developing a coordinated publicity effort, if you’re okay with that. I’m very interested in doing all that I can to insure that your store and your customers have a truly rewarding experience.
- With that in mind, I’d like to offer a brief workshop or presentation before the actual signing takes place. These activities encourage greater turn-out and provide an increased incentive for customers to make a purchase in your store while they’re there. It’s also an opportunity for you and your employees to mix in a fun way with your customers. I’ll work with you to tailor my presentation to whatever is of most interest to your clientele and, if possible, to tie the content in with a local event. My presentations are geared to last for about 15 minutes and they normally require seating for customers and some form of PA system. I can use printed materials if need be but if you have access to a laptop projection unit, that would be super. This extra effort is not required, of course, but I’m confident that it will be worth your while in terms of happy customers and book sales.
- May I provide you with a script for announcing the event in your store, assuming you have a PA system for that type of thing? I’ve found that the announcements that I create tend to motivate customers to join me more than routine in-store announcements.
- Please tell me when you’ll be ordering my book(s) for the event so that I can help you by calling you back about that time to see if there’s anything more that you need me to do.
- Please specify whether or not I can use posters, fliers, printed handouts, or other incentives and advertising before, during, and after the event. I provide everything, of course, but I realize that you might have policies against such author-specific promotion.
- Any special considerations that I should be aware of.
