Ah, so you’re interested in hosting me for a school or library visit. Wonderful!!!
Please email or call me via my Contact Me page and place “School Visit” or “Library Visit” (as appropriate) in the Subject line and then be sure to provide me with the following information in the body of your message, okay? Thanks!
- Your name and contact information, of course. Please include a phone number where you can be reached during the day and, if you don’t mind my calling you in the evening, a number for after work-hours as well.
- The general focus of the visit, if you have one. You might want me to discuss one of my books (I’m always eager to do that!) or to present something on how to be a successful writer. Or, perhaps, you’re interested in learning more about the subjects covered in my courses, like How to Develop Ideas, The Writing Process, How to Argue Effectively (as in lawyers, not siblings), How Writing Affects Your Brain, etc. I’d even enjoy talking about what it’s like to be a woman motorcyclist and an author (okay, I’d adore talking about that), or even how being a pilot affected my writing career. If you don’t have a topic in mind, we’ll figure out something together that will be just right.
- The projected date and times of your event. Best if you can give me more than one possible date in case I have a time conflict with your first choice.
- Location. If a school visit, will I be presenting in individual classrooms or in an open assembly area? Obviously, if it’s some distance from my home in Orem, Utah, travel expenses will need to be provided but we can work out the details about that. My goal is to insure that I provide you with complete satisfaction so you’ll want to invite me back again.
- Approximately how many participants will there be? If a school visit and I’ll be presenting to individual classes, please provide me with a count of the number of students per class.
- I like to use audio-visual equipment but, if you cannot provide them, then I can work with just printed materials. If in an assembly, could I have access to the PA system (for that room) and a laptop or an overhead projector? Will there be power to where I’ll be positioned?
- Would you object if I coordinated my visit with you with your local bookseller? Perhaps we could work out a discount on the purchase price for students who buy within a certain period of time. If nothing else, I can make arrangements to provide signed inscription labels for student purchases of my book(s).
- Please specify whether or not I can use posters, fliers, printed handouts, or material before, during, and after the event. I provide everything, of course, but I realize that you might have policies against such things.
- Any special considerations that I should be aware of.
Thanks again for your interest. I’m looking forward to talking with you in person soon.
- Please specify whether or not I can use posters, fliers, printed handouts, or other incentives and advertising before, during, and after the event. I provide everything, of course, but I realize that you might have policies against such author-specific promotion.
